7 Nights Northern Cyclades

price from £1,455

Duration 7 Days

Departure 14 Aug 2018

Although still in the same part of the world, our Eastern Mediterranean cruises are vastly different from those that we offer in the Western Mediterranean. The weather is still fantastic and ports of call are still as exciting and intriguing as ever, but the cultures and traditions that you will find in places such as Greece and Turkey vary to those elsewhere in Europe.

As you sail through the transparent Aegean Sea, stopping off at various islands along the way, you will find yourself eagerly anticipating the revelation of where you wake up every morning. Let the glorious Star Clipper do all the hard work as you lay back and enjoy the excellent atmosphere on board and discover what new adventures await at your next port of call

Ship

Star Flyer

As the name suggests, Star Flyer is both a shining example to other ships of her kind and a vessel that cuts through the water with all the grace of a bird in full flight. She may well be a carbon copy of her sister Star Clipper, but she still offers her own style and character to anyone who steps aboard.

If you’re taken by the spectacle and grandeur associated with the art of traditional sailing, but want to spend your holiday in the comfortable and luxurious confines offered by a conventional cruise, then a trip aboard Star Flyer is exactly what you are looking for. Her undeniably classical characteristics are a nod of appreciation to her predecessors, whilst her advanced navigation systems and refined finish prove she is by no means outdated.

With ample outdoor space for a full capacity of 170 guests and sizeable cabins, complete with all the mod-cons, you will never feel cramped aboard this excellent ship. In fact, because we abolish any rigid schedules or clothing and dining restrictions, you will feel as liberated as ever as the salty sea breeze rushes through your hair.

The general atmosphere is akin to that found on a private yacht, as everyone comes together to share their excitement for the adventures that await. Solitude can still be found however, either in the comfort of your personal stateroom or whilst immersed in a book from the onboard library.

The resplendent décor is appropriately finished with paintings of famous ships which again reflect the vintage nautical nature of this wonderful vessel. It’s easy to see the influence of Star Clippers’ heritage and the teak decks along with the warm mahogany rails complement everything perfectly.

Cruise itinerary

Walking in the shadow of the Acropolis in the Agora, you can almost hear the voices of Plato, Socrates and Aristotle arguing about who was the greatest philosopher. Ancient Athens, the birthplace of democracy and epicentre of western civilization, is a city for all eternity.

Narrow strait separating the island of Samos from Anatolia (Turkey). At its narrowest point it is only 1.6 km wide, the narrowest between any Aegean island and Turkey

Kusadasi is a popular Turkish port of call for cruise ships, as not only is it a bustling resort town full of shops, bars and restaurants, but it is also the main access point for the famous archeological site at Ephesus. Extensive excavations have revealed an ancient city through which visitors can now wander and observe the wonders of a bygone civilisation. Near Kusadasi, on Turkey’s turquoise coast, we make a stop at Camlimani, a small pellucid bay. Swim at the beach, snorkel, stroll the pine scented grounds, or have a run at the rides in the aquapark.

This serene island is known as the site of the apocalyptic revelations of St. John the Divine, The cave where he is said to have lived is now the site of the Monastery of the Apocalypse. It houses priceless icons and manuscripts in its treasury.

Amorgós’ cliff-clinging monastery of Hozoviotissas has one of the most spectacular locations of any in Greece. Only a few monks live in the cavernous 50-room monastery, but the view from their terrace aerie might make you think they had all flown to heaven from this very spot.

One of the most cosmopolitan of all the Greek Islands, Mykonos is a contrast of rocky hills and beautiful beaches. Hora, the capital, spreads around a colourful harbour, a popular meeting place, overlooked by a variety of tavernas, in which fishing boats nestle side by side with luxury yachts.

From the shore, it’s a big rock sticking out into the sea. Then you pass over the causeway, and through an iron fortress gate, and suddenly, the town of Monemvasia is before you, a perfectly preserved Byzantine fortified port, once 60,000 strong, now home to just a few hundred. You can readily see why the name Monemvasia means single entrance! In the rocky hills above, ancient Byzantine ruins loom over the town, while below a maze of red tiled roofs and twisting alleys hide tavernas and cafes and the home of revered Greek poet Yannis Ritsos.
